WOKAS programme

The programme, including en plein air days, workshops, demonstrations, and social events, is shown below.

Demos, talks, and members’ painting sessions are free to all WOKAS members and guests are welcome for a fee of £6 - no need to book.

Saturday workshops cost £30 (£35 for non-members) and must be booked in advance (see booking details below)

All indoor sessions are held at Highbury Hall, Highbury Lane, Tenterden TN30 6LE.

Meet and create

There will be a selection of spring-inspired still life setups ready for you to paint or draw. Alternatively, you’re very welcome to bring along your own subject or continue with a piece you’re already working on. It’s a relaxed and friendly evening - perfect for sharing ideas and enjoying some creative time together.

En plein air - Teston Lock, ME18 5BX

Meet in the car park. We look forward to a relaxed day of en plein air painting at Teston Lock, where the River Medway, lock gates and surrounding meadowland provide a variety of engaging subjects. Reflections in the water, passing boats and dappled light through the trees offer plenty of scope for exploration. A lovely spot to settle in, sketch and enjoy working outdoors together.

En plein air - Bodiam Castle - National Trust, TN32 5UA

Non NT members will have to pay parking fee and entrance fee. Join us for a day of painting at the iconic Bodiam Castle, one of the most recognisable medieval castles in the country. Its dramatic setting, complete with moat, stonework and open landscape, offers rich opportunities for composition. Reflections, strong forms and shifting light make this a particularly rewarding location.

Join us at St Michael and All Angels Church, Boughton Malherbe, a quietly atmospheric rural church surrounded by open countryside. The historic building, mature trees and peaceful setting offer a range of subjects, from architectural detail to broader landscape views.

Meet in Rock a Nore car park. The vibrant seaside town of Hastings provides a lively and characterful setting for painting. Fishing boats, net huts, beach activity and expansive sea views offer dynamic subject matter, with plenty of opportunity to capture movement, texture and coastal light.

Meet outside End of the Line Cafe. A visit to Dungeness offers a truly unique coastal landscape. Starting in the lockdown of 2020 our ‘Painting Challenges’ continue to keep our members busy. With our members working to a specific theme for each challenge, an astounding number of diverse works of art have been produced - all of these pictures can be seen online
