Demos, talks, and members’ painting sessions are free to all WOKAS members, and guests are welcome for a fee of £6.

Demos, talks, and members’ painting sessions are free to all WOKAS members and guests are welcome for a fee of £5 - no need to book.

Saturday workshops cost £30 (£35 for non-members) and must be booked in advance (booking details below)

All indoor sessions are held at Highbury Hall, Highbury Lane, Tenterden TN30 6LE.

WOKAS painting workouts - the 'Challenges'

Starting in the lockdown of 2020 our ‘Painting Challenges’ continue to keep our members busy. With our members working to a specific theme for each challenge, an astounding number of diverse works of art have been produced - all of these pictures can be seen online

Location: The Street, Appledore

A charming village with scenic canal views, perfect for capturing reflections and tranquil waters.

Parking: Free parking just off the road opposite the Black Lion
Toilets: Public toilets on the village green
Café/Pub: The Black Lion pub nearby

Tuesday, 20th May – Little Chart Ruins

Location: St Mary’s Church Ruins, Little Chart
A fascinating historical site with atmospheric ruins, ideal for dramatic compositions.
Parking: Limited parking near the church
Toilets: No facilities – plan accordingly
Café/Pub: The Swan Inn is a short drive away

Thursday, 12th June – Pett Level Beach

Location: Pett Level Beach, East Sussex
A stunning coastal location with vast skies and seascapes to inspire your creativity.
Parking: In laybys along the road
Toilets: Possibly public toilets available
Café: There is an outdoor kiosk style cafe

 

Tuesday, 1st July – Providence House

Location: Providence House, Green Hill Lane, Harrietsham ME17 1NF
Our member Leelee kindly invites us to her picturesque home, featuring bee hives, woodland
gardens, and far reaching views.
Parking: On-site parking available
Toilets: Available at the property

Thursday, 17th July – The Laurels Nursery, Dingleden

Location: The Laurels, Dingleden, TN17 4JU
A peaceful nursery setting with an expansive pond and lush greenery—a haven for nature-inspired art.
Parking: On-site parking available
Toilets: Available at the nursery

Tuesday, 29th July – Woodchurch

Location: The Green, Woodchurch
A quintessential English village with delightful cottages and rural scenes to explore.
Parking: Free parking in the village
Toilets: Public toilets available
Café/Pub: The Bonny Cravat pub nearby

Thursday, 14th August – Smallhythe Place NOTE 11am start

Location: Smallhythe Road, Tenterden, TN30 7NG
The former home of actress Ellen Terry, with charming historic buildings, a beautiful barn, and exquisite gardens.
WOKAS painters can gain free access to the gardens (For the house, there is an entrance fee for non-National Trust members)
Parking: Parking is free of charge in a layby 50 yards from the house. Extra parking is available further along the main road in the Church car park.
Toilets: Available on site
Café/Pub: Tearoom on-site serving drinks and snacks

Tuesday, 26th August – Newenden Green

Location: Meet in Newenden at 10.30am, by the cricket pitch
A charming village with plenty of space to spread out, so do bring along your paints, sketchbooks, and maybe a picnic or a flask of something nice. We’re looking forward to a creative day together in this lovely setting.
Parking: Parking is limited in Newenden - try to share a car with someone
Toilets: There are no public toilets available
Café/Pub: There are 2 cafés and the White Hart pub 

Thursday, 11th September – High Halden Village Green

Location: High Halden Village Green
This location offers stunning views of traditional village houses, The Chequers Pub, and the beautiful church with countryside beyond. Diane Wharton, a resident of the green, has kindly offered use of her facilities. 
Parking: Free parking near the green
Toilets: Available at Diane’s home
Café/Pub: The Chequers Pub nearby
